The creative juices are flowing once again...

Velvet D'amour graced the aw06 JP runway show and at the time caused a bit of a braaaaap! She’s fit, and yeh she knows it, but…man is she big! Some said that it was JP's answer to the skinny debate i.e. would you rather see this on the runway? Others however, were a bit more optimistic in their view as they believed it was a very loud proclamation of beauty, ‘fold by fold’... Personally I think its awful selling two dangerous extremes as figures of beauty. To be unnaturally thin is unhealthy, so it is to be obese. It sends out all the wrong messages to the 'vulnerables' of this world. Now don't get me wrong I'm not at all sympathetic to the 'vulnerables' of this world.

They are too weak and, what's the word- wet, to stand a chance in life- survival of the fittest no? I do feel that designers have set a standard for what beauty is meant to be but to be fair its one's responsibility to know what is real in this world and what remains construct. Speaking to a close friend who is in fashion school made that even clearer as she confirmed that she'd rather have a rake to show her collection- she draws on rake, she's going to show on rake. I was somewhat disappointed because she like everyone else knows that it is an unrealistic approach to designing for real people- not construct people moulded by media and the times. She proved that there's a long way to go to make any kind of considerable change- sorry but banning models according to BMI (body mass index isn’t even medical Google it) in one measly catwalk show is not only farfetched but has proved not to have made a poignant difference- its pure propaganda in the political world of fashion. True beauty is not in the eye of the beholder, but in the eye of he who beholds- so if you don't feel beautiful, there's no one you can fool. I seem to have digressed somewhat, but I will realiterate that too skinny is no good (just look at all of the 'fasting' blogs on youtube to see how fucked up these girls are- 'I'm not anorexic, I'm fasting'), while being too big is equally frightening- how many Channel 4 documentaries catalogue the biggest man, woman, child, embryo, dog, cat, fish, ladybird, frog, beastie and so on in the UK, non of them can barely move…
For a happy medium take at look at simply beautiful Crystal Renn, curves to behold. pimp! Crystal started her modeling career in high fashion at the age of 14 after being told to lose almost a third of her total body weight. This weight loss eventually triggered a health crisis, causing her to reassess her diet and exercise habits. After gaining 70 pounds and re-emerging as a much-healthier U.S. size 12, Crystal was reclassified by her agents as a plus-size model, and now enjoys a highly successful career.Crystal has been featured in six Vogue magazines and is the first plus-size woman to earn the highly coveted Dolce & Gabbana ad campaign. Maybe wheels are in motion....
